I realize I never comment on non-fiction, but I often enjoy it also. Recently I picked up OUTLIERS by Malcolm Gladwell, the author of THE TIPPING POINT. I really did not want to put it down. Fascinating observations. I read where some reviewers think he makes mountains out of molehills; but, if so, they are intriguing molehills. I think all teachers, parents, and grandparents would be interested in the chapter titled "Rice Paddies and Math Tests", a very interesting take on why the Asians wipe us out in math. Christopher is already tired of hearing me tell him how the 8th grade student in China will not give up on a puzzling problem until after working at it for twenty-two minutes. I am afraid he is quite content with his American average of thirty seconds to two minutes. The real kicker is that the fault may lie with his grandmother not having grown up working in a rice paddy.
Check it out. I think you'll enjoy it.
